John Holcomb

John Holcomb

John has worked as a driver rehabilitation specialist full time since 1997. He has been a member of the Association for Driver Rehabilitation Specialists (known as ADED) for ten years. He became a Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist in 2003, and is fully licensed to teach in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. He was previously an electronic technician and so he has a technical background, and a common sense approach to fixing problems. He has attended National and Regional ADED conferences since 1998, and often plays his guitar with the ADED band at these conferences.

His interests include music, sports and aviation, especially Radio Controlled model airplanes. He is a flying instructor with the Millis Model Aircraft Club, so he is always teaching somebody something, as long as they are interested in learning. He enjoys meeting new people, learning about other people’s countries, culture, and history. He likes seeing what is around the next bend in the road, never tires of driving, or talking about music, sports or aviation.

He is been involved with over 500 road tests for his clients since 1997, and he has a success rate of over 90%. He has extensive experience teaching people with learning disabilities, and he understands many of the issues associated with Asperger’s Syndrome, Autism, Anxiety Disorder, as well as many of the other problems facing new drivers. He has worked with people from all over the world, many of whom have never sat behind the wheel of a car before. He is familiar with many types of physical disabilities, and can often find the right combination of adaptive equipment that best suits the client’s needs.
